Alone in the midst of the Anatolian
steppe, the Hittites named this place Kuwanna almost 4,000 years ago. Konya was the
capital of the Seljuk Empire between 1071 and 1308. Today it is known throughout the world
as the home of the Whirling Dervishes. You can visit
the Mevlana Museum named for its 13th century founder and the Slender Minaret Medrese.
